On a particular project, the condition of subsea systems was not being monitored by the operations support team and the operator was unaware of the poor status and condition of the Subsea Controls System until fairly late on in the engagement process..

The lesson learned is that or future decommissioning projects the operator will always confirm the condition of existing systems (incl. Subsea Controls Systems) early in the project. This requirement is to be described within the Asset Decommissioning Plan.
